THE GET DOWN

Walk in the main entrance of American Rag and you might be greeted by someone sitting on top a red leather piano in the shoe department. Yaaas.

As you do a small loop and spy all the latest labels (from Isabel Marant to Come De Garcon), you realize there’s so much more. Continue walking, and vintage Levi jeans will pop out at ya, beautiful vintage scarves and mounds of vintage tops. Then you’ll spy another hallway.

Looking up and around and you think you walked into a giant warehouse of the brightest, most interesting market of European home imports, starting with the colorful bistro chairs hanging from the ceiling.

And then bam! You finally spy the cafe so you take a seat. And all that wandering has built up a good appetite.

The host hands you a book. Or is it a menu? And you start to ease into the bustling scene, as you can’t help but to make conversation with your neighbor ( I mean, you are practically sitting on her lap in this place).

Beautiful salads, fish, omelettes, roasted potatoes and everything else you think you have a taste for pass you by. Now you can’t decide what to order.

Everything on Cafe Medi’s menu is delicious so I can’t help you either.

Cafe Medi is a fun spot, an awesome scene and fantastic food. The backdrop of the market adds to your eclectic dining experience. The noise level is perfect for screamers.

HOWEVER (man, why does there have to be a HOWEVER?) all the eye candy at eye level that surrounds the place definitely appeals to young tots who have trouble sitting still (like mine).

If you have a runner, I would hold off on eating here. I went through a swatting stage around 15 months so had to stay clear of this place altogether. There was too much to look at and grab and Capri had no interest in sitting still. Not even for Curious George.

Now that 2 has rolled around, things have smoothed over but I still have to keep a close eye and hope over stimulation doesn’t sit in.

Rating System:

It’s our goal to make exploring LA either with the kids or with grown ups as easy as possible. Click through the tabs above to check out our rating system.

For those with little
runners & screamers:

Easily forgiven:

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.

Not promoted, but you should take the chance:

If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.

Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:

I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.

No contained area:

A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.

Enclosed, but space is tight:

If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
