When I first heard about Tocaya, I couldn’t quite wrap my head around the meaning of “Modern Mexican” cuisine. I gave it a try though, and can’t help from going back time and time again.
“Modern Mexican” equals organic health conscious cuisine that is made with no lard. Yes! Tocaya has managed to make Mexican food you can feel good about eating.
Alas, a choice of salads that are more than the carrot and pepper combo you’d find at most Mexican restaurants. Vegan burritos with tofu? Whaaa? Man! Quesadillas with roasted peppers, grilled onions and mushrooms?! Now THESE are tasty!
Here at Tocaya, you can customize your taco by choosing a protein: chicken, fish, beef or tofu. And you gotta LOVE a place with great side dishes! Yep, Tocaya has it ALL going on here.
The fast, casually-chic vibe makes Tocaya a perfect place for runners or screamers. In fact, Tocaya can be a great spot for a super casual date, a playdate after set, or anytime you feel like a comfortable and chic environment without a hoity toity fuss.
Most locations have an outside patio the tots will love. This particular Tocaya location makes for great people watching right off Sunset Blvd.

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.
Not promoted, but you should take the chance:
If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.
Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:
I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.
No contained area:
A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.
Enclosed, but space is tight:
If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
