THE GET DOWN
I have a bittersweet relationship with Plummer Park I must confess. I love it because it’s walking distance from my abode and it has a farmers market on Monday with a damn good rotisserie chicken and potatoes reminiscent of the kind I once had from a street vendor in the south of France (pardon the rant, I’m hungry).
Plummer Park also has an enclosed play area for the very young ones and a large playground for the older kids. Swings, tennis courts, basketball courts which reflect just enough light to keep the playground in full force for longer. Cement paths to skateboard on… But why oh why don’t you have shade?!
Hanging at Plummer Park also brings me back to my south side Chicago days, except there are more multicultural peeps than homies that hang here (though you do need a watchful eye regardless because homeless people like to use the bathroom here). Hey, keepin’ it real.
I find the old Russian men playing chess very endearing, as well as the large amount of family togetherness. There’s something nostalgic as well as urban hanging out at Plummer Park.
Now if I can only train my daughter not to drink out of that doggy fountain…

For those with little
runners & screamers:
Easily forgiven:
Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.
Not promoted, but you should take the chance:
If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.
Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:
I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.
No contained area:
A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.
Enclosed, but space is tight:
If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
