THE GET DOWN
Artisanal ice cream shops like Magpies are popping up all over LA these days! Most boast the basics (which is a good thing) , but Magpies does something different, and the difference is worth the stop. Magpies dishes out soft serve. Yep, just like the good ol’ Dairy Queen days, but created with ingredients that you can actually pronounce.
You will find flavors like ancho chili chocolate, bananas foster, or malted milk chocolate (among many others) at Magpies. In addition, a lot of these delicious flavors are made Vegan too.
You have your choice of cup or waffle cone and let me tell you, (even more so than our ice cream experience) the waffle cone is the most crispy, thinnest, lightly sweetened goodness I’ve ever laid my ice cream in.
Now that I got through all the deliciously yummy stuff, I do want to get my restaurant snob on for a minute and say that UNLIKE DQ, Tasty Freeze, or anywhere else you got soft serve as a kid, the consistency of the soft serve at Magpies is not as dense as I prefer my soft serve ice cream to be.
By no means would I let this hinder me from popping in should I be driving through Silverlake though. But it is something to take note of. Magpies, you are a pretty sweet stop. And i never have to sell my tot on a sweet treat.

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.
Not promoted, but you should take the chance:
If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.
Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:
I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.
No contained area:
A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.
Enclosed, but space is tight:
If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
