THE GET DOWN
If you are wondering what crowds the storefront of this modest street in Atwater, one word: DUNE. Dune is a spot that epitomizes the near perfect falafel.
Using organic, sustainable and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, the quality of the food at DUNE can’t be beat. The falafel itself is not only flavorful, but moist so you get the perfect composed bite each time. The house made pickles, marinated cabbage and tahini gives the dish that something extra.
Another fav is the fried chicken shawarma. It has the perfect amount of spice and unassuming texture that comes from the toppers: pickles and radishes.
Dune is a tiny spot, and it’s a great place to dine with your favorite peepsqueaks. It’s a casual order at the counter type of place. One communal table sits in the middle, surrounded by a ledge to eat.
The outside is where the action is. So if you’re planning on dining with a runner, then plan on running laps. Sorry, this is a meal you’ll have to work for.

For those with little
runners & screamers:
Easily forgiven:
Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.
Not promoted, but you should take the chance:
If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.
Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:
I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.
No contained area:
A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.
Enclosed, but space is tight:
If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
