Viva Mexico! CaCao Mexicatessen is some of, if not THE BEST, Mexican food in LA. I’ve been searching high and low for anything that would remotely equate to the Mexican restaurant in Indiana I’ve frequented since childhood, and nothing ever measured up… until now.
Using the best ingredients will always hold a spot at the top of the restaurant game, and CaCao Mexicatessen is a clear example of why.
I’d like to say that the ridiculously delicious duck taco separates CaCao Mexicatessen from the rest, but I must confess… the classics are done the way the classics SHOULD be done and these are what has us going back.
The carne arrachera (aged angus skirt steak pounded nice and thin) and the cilantro-lime chimichurri seals the deal. The corn tortillas are so fresh they practically melt in your mouth. The rosemary–cotija French fries are hand cut, and they use abuelita’s recipe for their enchiladas. And wait for it… CaCao Mexicatessen makes a mission fig mole poblano sauce that is OUT OF THIS WORLD!
CaCao Mexicatessen is inviting to the whole family. Though it’s an order-at-the-counter type of place, it certainly isn’t fast food. It’s a cantina-style joint and a perfect place to grab a beer, some great grub and catch up with friends.
To those with runners and screamers: The rhythm is going to get you at Cacao Mexicastessen and you will be back time and time again.

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.
Not promoted, but you should take the chance:
If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.
Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:
I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.
No contained area:
A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.
Enclosed, but space is tight:
If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
