Journeymen – Permanently Closed
THE GET DOWN
It’s hard to nail down the mindset of the folks behind Journeymen, but then again, as long as they are using the best quality ingredients, who needs to analyze anything? Yes, it’s true, Journeymen started off as an order at the counter type of place, but I can see how it gracefully moved into a sit-down order with your waiter (well kinda?) dining experience.
Let me explain… Upon sitting, you might wonder what the card and pencil are doing in front of you? Until the waiter comes to the table, discusses the menu and then tells you, it’s your turn to work. Once you decide what you want, you fill out the card and hand it to the waiter?
Ok, so maybe THAT’S why the tip is included in the price of each dish? There are layers of uncertainly and confusion to this. Maybe this is why our dessert came out well after our meal ended, and right when we finished dessert, oh… there was my tea! But it’s neither here nor there. Let’s just talk food.
Though I can’t pronounce half of the menu, nor could I visualize the flavors in my mind, every dish we tried was pretty on point. Take the duck confit for instance. What the heck is persimmon gastrique? But when you dip that duck into the pistachio butter, something close to magic happens. Same with the roasted beets.
Come during the day (Fri-Sun only) for a different side of Journeymen. Brunch… my fav! Splurge your caloric intake for the week on a croquet-monsieur pleeeeease. Balance it out with a salad and call it a day.
The vibe at brunch time is definitely more forgiving for your little runner or screamer. At brunch, you can sense Journeymen’s neighborhood and community feel. In the evenings, the dimly lit restaurant, along with the music and tight seating quarters would be a perfect place for a date!
Without a doubt, Journeymen has ignited quite the foodie scene over on the east side!

For those with little
runners & screamers:
Easily forgiven:
Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.
Not promoted, but you should take the chance:
If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.
Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:
I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.
No contained area:
A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.
Enclosed, but space is tight:
If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
