OTIUM

THE GET DOWN

I write about Otium because of its convenience to the Broad museum alone.

We have only eaten here once but the food and service were delightful. If the place was more convenient to anything else, we would have been back already. The warm contemporary relaxed design of Otium goes along beautifully with its American Fusion flare.

We were on the struggle bus a bit that first visit with Capri. She wanted nothing to do with her seat and sought refuge in a corner window spot (where people were sitting) to watch the cars drive by beneath her.

I caught backlash from a bitter woman sitting there. In fact, this was the first time ever anyone has said anything to me about Capri. She kept telling me this isn’t Norm’s. I couldn’t understand what she was saying?

I thought it was her British way of telling me this isn’t normal (to which I just wanted to say, listen lady, this is Normal. She’s not even 1 and a half yet, along with a few other choice words) I found out later she was talking about a diner named Norm’s.

Anyway, goes without saying that Otium is not as forgiving to runners and screamers. Chances are, if you have a runner or screamer, you probably wouldn’t be visiting the Broad either.

There, you have to keep at least 2 feet from every exhibit. Gulp. In fact, just check back in with Otium when your tot hits Kindergarten or save the dining/museum experience for date night.

Rating System:

It’s our goal to make exploring LA either with the kids or with grown ups as easy as possible. Click through the tabs above to check out our rating system.

For those with little
runners & screamers:

Easily forgiven:

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.

Not promoted, but you should take the chance:

If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.

Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:

I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.

No contained area:

A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.

Enclosed, but space is tight:

If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
