Echo Park

THE GET DOWN

Where to start? PADDLEBOATING!

This park has a little something for the whole family. At first I was suspect of our 2 year olds ability to stay in a boat. And rightfully so, since before she turned 2, she had a problem staying in any one given place for more than 5 minutes. With major coaxing by daddy, I agreed to give it a go. Man did she have a blast paddling up to the ducks. I mean so excited. I wish I could’ve relaxed a little more though.

I’ve had a natural aversion with large bodies of water since I was a child. My biggest fear is getting trapped on a boat and no way out. I’ve tried to fight it. Then… I almost drowned at my first triathlon. Ok, I’m not going there. That’s a story for when you really get to know me. Anyway, I kept trying not to listen to those voices in my head as I reminded myself we all have life jackets on and in 10 quick strokes we would make it to land. Blegh.

But Capri kept laughing and laughing and in those moments, I got present and enjoyed it. So fight your fear. Grab an elote or some fruit, climb a monkey bar or two, hang with the homies. Echo Park has outdoor entertainment for the whole family. Oh, and if you feel like a café sit down, grab a bite at Square One. It’s just outside of the boathouse. You can only do right, here.

Rating System:

It’s our goal to make exploring LA either with the kids or with grown ups as easy as possible. Click through the tabs above to check out our rating system.

For those with little
runners & screamers:

Easily forgiven:

Here, you can forget the fact that it’s your rambunctious child that’s screaming and STILL enjoy most of your meal.

Not promoted, but you should take the chance:

If your toddler is at the stage when an iPad or some other colorful distraction can be used for an un-interrupted 20 minutes, then go for it.

Uh-uh, NO WAY, don’t even think about it!:

I don’t care how cute your toddler is. Pop your head in… turn around… walk away. PERIOD.

No contained area:

A place you cannot leave your toddler alone, not even for a second.

Enclosed, but space is tight:

If YOU can’t fit between the tables then you know you couldn’t catch your toddler if they tried – this isn’t Norm’s.
